The Nation’s Ideal Smile

The results of a survey launched today (29th January) has revealed the nations ‘ideal’ male and female smiles.   The research found that the ideal male smile is made up of Robert Pattison’s lips, David Beckham’s teeth and Orlando Bloom’s chin. While the ideal female smile is made from Angelina Jolie’s lips, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge’s teeth and Jennifer Anniston’s chin.

A beautiful smile instantly conveys multiple positive messages, but a beautiful smile is not just about having straight teeth. Teeth are closely connected to jaw, which forms a person’s chin, while lips are supported by the teeth, these three elements (lips, teeth and chin) need to be in perfect alignment in order to maximise the beauty of a smile.

The findings were unveiled by Align Technology, the manufacturers of Invisalign - a virtually invisible orthodontic treatment which moves teeth using a series of custom-made clear aligners. The company commissioned the survey to highlight that a beautiful smile consists of more than one facial feature in isolation. The specially trained Invisalign dentists and orthodontists work with patients to maximise the beauty of each unique, individual smile, taking into account how moving each tooth may impact other features of the face.

Invisalign works by repositioning teeth discretely, little by little, using a set of custom made clear aligners which are changed in two weekly increments, encouraging all three elements of the smile — teeth, chin and lips - to transform until they work harmoniously.  The discreet nature of Invisalign (often no one knows the patient is undergoing treatment) means it is one of the most popular orthodontic treatments available for adults (including a number of celebrities — not that you’d know they were having treatment).
