How to ensure ‘wedding day’ perfection in 2017 – for bride and groom

2017 is nearly upon us and, for those planning to tie the knot next year, thoughts turn to nailing that picture perfect look for the big day.

And news is that the boys are catching up with the girls when it comes to investment in cosmetic procedures, with blokes flocking for skin treatments and cosmetic dental procedures in record numbers.

According to reports, “Brotox” to get shot of frown lines and crow’s feet are on the ‘to do’ list of a fair few grooms seeking some essential grooming treatments in the run up to their wedding day.

And more men are also embracing the brace, hoping for a newly straightened and dazzling smile to enhance their look.

Dermal fillers and laser treatment are also on the list of ‘must haves’ – with men giving their partners a run for the money in the bid to look youthful.

Let’s face it, a radiant smile, sparkling eyes and smooth skin can make a huge difference – to your confidence, your enjoyment and how you look in your photos.

According to statistics from the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, the top cosmetic procedure in 2015 was blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) that increased by 15%, with rhinoplasty (nose jobs) hot on its heels having increased by 14%.

And it’s not just the face men want to enhance – breast reduction to get rid of moobs was up by 13% and 20% more men opted for liposuction – the fourth most popular surgery.

Other treatments in the top 10 for men included face/neck lifts, browlifts and abdominoplasty.

Awareness of these options is largely thanks to social media and internet coverage of celebrity lifestyles.

Actor Ross Adams, star of Hollyoaks, is a case in point. He currently pens an online wedding blog for Gay Times in the run up to his own nuptials.

He says: ‘Hilariously, both Phil and I have started to think about our wedding day smiles. I wanted a straighter smile and Phil wanted full-on Hollywood white gnashers. So off we trotted...

‘It does feel pretty weird to have a brace at my age, but if it means I’m going to have a nice straight smile for the pictures, I don’t mind one bit.’

But obviously gay couples are not alone in embracing the wedding day makeover.

Since men are getting wed later in life, with a huge number of photos posted across the many social media platforms, they are acutely aware of the need to look fab.

Non-surgical or minimally invasive can rejuvenate without any interruption to daily life. Teeth straightening can be achieved in as little as four month and teeth whitening in just a couple of hours.

Therefore, couples may wish to start as they mean to go on and book dual appointments to see their cosmetic dentist or surgeon where they can plan together what aesthetic treatments they are wishing for.

Teeth
If you have a crooked smile, unsightly gaps or overcrowded mouth that impacts on your confidence to smile naturally then you may need some time for any cosmetic treatments to transform your teeth and enhance it. Your dentist will be happy to discuss all the options to straighten your teeth.

You may wish to consider dental veneers – with new dental technology, thin porcelain veneers, such as Durathin or Lumineers, can now be layered straight over your natural teeth and made in just a few days.

To complete the makeover, why not treat yourself to a whitening treatment? According to You & Your Wedding magazine, 39% of brides plan to have their teeth whitened for the wedding pictures and, these days, professional teeth whitening is easily affordable, whatever you choose – just make sure you visit your dental clinic for this treatment.

And if you want to be sure you’re kissable on your wedding day, get your oral health in tip top condition by booking an appointment with a dental hygienist a month before the day. Any stubborn stains can be blasted away by air polishing techniques and you can have that fresh mouth feeling that you only get with a professional clean.

Look into my eyes
Eyes are the window on our soul, so they say – and nobody wants to look hung over, tired or wiped out on their wedding day.

Aside from avoiding that hen nights and stag evenings take place in the week before the day, couples may consider having blepharoplasty – eyelid lift surgery that is great for eye bag removal, too.

It’s a simple, safe and quick procedure that removes excess fat and skin from around the eyes and can get rid of any hooded or drooping eyelids.

Alternatively, Botox is an effective, affordable and temporary solution – especially for those crows feet and wrinkles – but just be sure the clinician administering the treatment is qualified to do so – and has plenty of experience. You can find a suitable practitioner here.

But, just in case your wedding day is a fair way off yet – or you’re prepared to wait a decade – researchers in California have just successfully reversed ageing in live mice and human skin cells in a laboratory dish.

Using an innovative technique that takes adult cells back to their embryonic form, the scientists showed it was possible to reverse ageing in mice, allowing the animals to not only look younger, but live for 30% longer. This means rejuvenation could become a reality and human trials may begin within 10 years.
