Dental regulators add extra layer of patient protection

The General Dental Council (GDC) – that regulates dentistry in the UK – has taken a step closer to making dental treatment safer for you.

The GDC has paired up with a company to add an extra layer of patient protection before applicants are being allowed onto the register that lists qualified dental professionals.

The DataFlow Group is a global provider of specialised Primary Source Verification (PSV) solutions, and background screening and immigration compliance services.

By working in partnership with Dataflow Group, the GDC can ensure that new applicant’s details are subject to extra verification – such as criminal and regulatory records – before they are accepted onto the dental register.

By having these extra safeguards in place, the GDC says: ‘There is an enhanced layer of verification for new applicants to o Register, in addition to the already robust procedures we have in place to assess applications.’

Gurvinder Soomal, Director of Registration and Operational Excellence of the GDC, adds: ‘By implementing these extra safeguards, the GDC has introduced an enhanced layer of verification for applicants to our Register, in addition to the already robust procedures we have in place to assess applications, thereby bolstering patient and public protection.

‘This is clearly in line with our aims as set out in ‘Patients, Professionals, Partnerships and the Public ’ – our roadmap for the next five years. To this end, we look forward to a successful partnership with the DataFlow Group.’
