Penile Augmentation Surgery

A penoplasty, also known as phalloplasty, is the main type of penile augmentation surgery that is available in the UK. The surgery can be used to enlarge the penis or to lengthen it.

Penile augmentation surgery can be carried out to lengthen or enlarge the penis, in many cases patients choose to have both operations performed simultaneously. A penoplasty operation generally takes between one and two hours.

Lengthening

In order to lengthen the penis the surgeon will make a small incision at the base of the penis and the ligament that suspends it. This incision causes the penis to drop forward and lengthen its appearance. The length gained will vary from patient to patient but in most cases a patient’s penis will increase by one to two inches. After making the incision, the surgeon will then reattach the ligament lower down and a flap of skin will be used to cover the new extension. The incision will require stitches both externally and internally.
A penile lengthening operation only affects the appearance of the penis in a flaccid state.

Enlarging

To enlarge or increase the girth of the penis, the surgeon will take fat from another part of the body, such as the abdomen or thighs and transfer this to the penis. The fat is taken through a liposuction procedure and then injected to avoid scars and improve the recovery time. Most patients can expect the circumference of the penis to increase by 30-50% or 1-2 inches. The results will be visible in both erect and flaccid states.

You will normally be told to rest and recover for a week after the surgery and avoid exercise and sexual activity for up to a month. While patients generally fully recover within a month, it can take between three and six months for the full results of a lengthening procedure to be achieved.
Once recovered, the penis will function completely normally, both in terms of erection and urination ability.

Surgeries to lengthen and augment the girth of the penis are often conducted at the same time to create a more natural look but they can be performed as independent operations. It is important to have realistic expectations before surgery and a consultant should be able to explain the outcomes you can expect in your personal case.

Lengthening procedures can range from £3,500 to £5,000 and enlargement procedures from £1,000 to £2,500 in a private surgery. Having both procedures conducted at the same time can result in lower prices.
