Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) is also referred to as micro-needling or medical skin needling. It is a minimally invasive treatment used to rejuvenate the skin and can help to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and scars on both the face and body. CIT uses micro-needles on a medical grade roller to create tiny puncture wounds in the area being treated. The process encourages the skin to begin healing and as a result naturally produce more collagen, which helps to tighten, firm and refresh the skin. While the procedure causes minimal trauma, a topical anaesthetic can be used in order to reduce any discomfort felt by the patient.

When you first arrive for your treatment a topical anaesthetic may be applied to the area before the device is rolled over your skin. There are several different lengths of needles, which attach to the roller, to control how deeply the skin is penetrated. Generally the deeper the needles penetrate the more dramatic the results. CIT duration will depend on the area you are having treated, ranging from 10 minutes to around one hour.

After CIT it is normal for the skin to be slightly pink and some patients may experience bruising or mild bleeding - generally the deeper the needle, the more likely this is to occur. Even if you choose to have the treatment on deeper layers of skin, the recovery time following CIT is quick and you should be fully recovered within one to three days. In order to kick-start the production of your body’s collagen, you’ll likely be recommended a series of several treatments to obtain optimal results. Post procedure, your doctor or dermatologist should advise on a skincare regime to further enhance the outcome.

Risks associated with medical skin needling are minimal and side effects of CIT generally subside within a week. Effects can include dryness of the skin and slight discolouration.

There are many other health benefits of Collagen.

Collagen Induction Therapy usually costs between £200 and £400 per session. The actual fee will depend on the size of the area being treated and the type of device being used.
