Hyperhidrosis Treatment
  • I sweat excessively

The medical term for excessive sweating is hyperhidrosis, there are a number of solutions proven to be effective including Botox® which is used to treat hyperhidrosis in the feet and under the arms.

If you suffer from hyperhidrosis, you’ll likely notice it affects some parts of your body more than others – the face, hands, feet, tops of the legs / thighs, the trunk, under the arms and the scalp are all common problem areas. These regions are classed as primary hyperhidrosis, with the remaining parts of the body falling under secondary hyperhidrosis.

If you suffer from primary hyperhidrosis, your symptoms will have first appeared as a child. You may have noticed them becoming more pronounced as your entered puberty and then continuing as you matured. A range of issues may have triggered hyperhidrosis, with secondary hyperhidrosis commonly caused by underlying conditions. These may include a psychiatric disorder but it can also be attributed to obesity, menopause, an overactive thyroid or a malignant disease.

A number of solutions have been proven to be effective treatments for hyperhidrosis including Botox®, topical and oral medication, surgery and iontophoresis.
Botox® is used to treat hyperhidrosis in the feet and under the arms. The area to be treated is first covered with an anaesthetic cream, and then the injection is made. The bacteria found in Botox®, Clostridium Botulinum decreases the amount of sweat produced by blocking the chemical (Acetylcholine) which the body needs to produce sweat.

Downtime is minimal and results apparent almost right away. The area treated will feel numb until the anaesthetic wears off and will look bruised however, you’ll be able to go about your day and resume normal activities after two hours. You should notice a decrease in sweat production between three and five days after the procedure.

Injections for Hyperhidrosis start at around £100.
