You’ve all seen emails with non-surgical aesthetic procedures offered at bargain basement prices and no doubt you've heard whispers from individuals with dramatic pout ‘enhancements’ about salons that offer one syringe shared between two people. As a nurse, these stories make me feel quite ill, as there is no way that a medically trained, responsible professional would agree to administer treatments in this way. Even if you change the needle during a ‘syringe share’, there is still a risk of cross-contamination from one patient to another, putting the patients at unnecessary risk just to save a little money.
For some, wrinkle relaxing injections and dermal fillers are perceived to be on the same level (and at the same price-point) as a handbag or pair of shoes from a High Street shop as a quick and risk-free ‘fix’ that is comparable to having nail extensions or colouring your hair. This just isn’t the case. Non-surgical aesthetic procedures involve the injection, or application, of chemical solutions. Done incorrectly, or without due care and attention in a clean and hygienic environment, non-surgical aesthetic treatments can have unwanted results, from unsightly bumps and lumps right through to bruising and potential infection. All non-surgical aesthetic treatments have a small risk associated with them, but under the expert care of a medical professional, the risk of potential side effects occurring tends to be lower - and in the unlikely event that something unexpected does go wrong, at least in the safe hands of a medical professional, you can rest assured that your wellbeing is of utmost concern to your practitioner.
At Appearance Based Medicine, we believe in responsible treatments and we put patient safety and wellbeing at the very heart of everything we do. We don’t promote discounts and deals – we charge a responsible and fair price for our treatments. We insist on a pre-treatment consultation with every patient, and ensure that everyone has the time and information necessary to make an informed decision about whether a treatment is right for them.
If you, or someone you know, is tempted by the ‘too good to be true’ price of a non-surgical aesthetic treatment, please think twice before booking an appointment; make sure your skin is in the safe and experienced hands of a medical professional so that you are #SafeNotSorry – it’s just not worth the risk!
