On-the-go oral health – how to keep your teeth clean without a toothbrush

Ever been on the go, away from home, and felt the overwhelming desire to brush your teeth?

Of course, there are define benefits to brushing your teeth at times other than the morning and night – particularly if you snack on sugary foods.

While carrying a toothbrush (and toothpaste) is never a bad idea, it can be tricky to use in public spaces.

So what's the alternative?

We have put together a list of some on-the-go tips to help you keep your mouth clean.

But remember – these are additions, not replacements. Nothing can replace brushing your teeth twice a day for two minutes.

Chewing gum

A great breath freshener, it is also an excellent contender for clearing your mouth of food particles.

It also helps to generate saliva to help wash away any debris and acid, essentially neutralising your mouth.

Remember – make sure the chewing gum is sugar free!

Mouthwash

An excellent on-the-go alternative, mouthwash can reduce plaque and protect your teeth from cavities.

Mouthwash, however, should not be used straight after brushing. Due to toothpaste containing higher levels of fluoride, mouthwash can actually wash it away if used too quickly.

This makes it a great item to carry if you are ever in need when away from your home.

Floss

Although it can be fiddly, floss is a convenient way to rid your teeth of any bits of food that may have got stuck.

Much like chewing gum, it is also very small – the perfect oral health companion to keep in your bag.

Floss can also be used together with your toothbrushing routine.
