Carboxy therapy is a popular treatment for reducing localised areas of fat and cellulite. Other skin complaints such as acne scars, stretch marks and wrinkles can also be improved with CDT.
Carboxy therapy is the term used to describe carbon dioxide therapy, or CDT. CDT has been used within European medicine since the 1950s and it is now becoming increasingly popular within UK aesthetic clinics. Carboxy therapy is a popular treatment for reducing localised areas of fat and cellulite. Other skin complaints such as acne scars, stretch marks and wrinkles can also be improved with CDT.
Very small quantities of medical standard carbon dioxide gas are infused underneath the skin’s surface. If treating cellulite, it is often penetrated deeper into the skin. A thin needle delivers the gas throughout a series of injections with the dose and flow of the gas always carefully controlled.
Depending on the particular treatment, it is sometimes possible to see the carbon dioxide gas as it travels under the surface of the skin. For treating cellulite, the carbon dioxide gas infusion is often combined with a massage to ensure equal distribution of the substance. Afterwards, the elasticity of the skin in its deeper layers is improved, eliminating the appearance of cellulite. This is due to the blood vessels widening, helping blood to flow to the treated area.
Follow-up treatments:
Instant results can be achieved with CDT, helping skin to appear smooth and youthful once again. Over time the procedure will help to encourage natural fat burning as the blood flow is improved in the targeted area. In order to maintain the desired results, follow up sessions may be needed. For example, if CDT is being used to treat stretch marks then the amount of sessions required will depend on how recent the scarring is. Newer stretch marks may only call for one treatment, while older marks may need around four sessions, with a space of three to four weeks between each one.
Whether you are looking to reduce the appearance of wrinkles or improve the look of your cellulite, carboxy therapy can improve oxygenation, circulation and the supply of nutrients to a targeted area of the skin. This treatment is safe and relatively non-invasive, delivering effective results wherever it is administered
Downtime is minimal, and you will be able to return to your normal daily activities straight after a carboxy procedure has been performed.
Prices start at £100 a session.
