Mike studied dentistry at Sheffield University and graduated in 1992. Following graduation he furthered his experience in both hospital and practice settings, during which time he gained the Fellowship in Dental Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Having first specialised in Surgical Dentistry he was accredited as a Specialist in Oral Surgery in 1999 by the General Dental Council.

Following a change in direction Mike started Orthodontic specialist training at Birmingham Dental Hospital in 2003, gaining the Membership in Orthodontics from the Edinburgh Royal College in 2006 and a Masters of Philosophy degree from Birmingham University in 2007. This allowed him to become registered as an Orthodontist with the General Dental Council (GDC no 68403).

Mike’s pre-consultant training then continued back at Sheffield Dental Hospital and Rotherham District General Hospital, where he gained further experience particularly in complex cases and obtained his Fellowship in Orthodontics in 2008. This involved specialising in complex cases requiring orthodontics in combination with surgery to the jaws, orthodontics in combination with implants and restorative treatment and also treatment of patients with clefts of the lip and palate.

Mike is an active member of the British Orthodontic Society, having represented the training grades groups on several committees and he has completed a term as a Trustee on the main board of the Society.
