Bayan Al-Kassab

Bayan qualified in 1977 with a BDS degree from the College of Dentistry- University of Baghdad. After basic dental qualification, he spent one year in general dental practice in Baghdad followed by two years full time postgraduate course at the University of Baghdad and received the High Diploma in Oral Surgery. From 1980 and for five years, he worked at several Oral & Maxillofacial Departments in hospitals and military units attending and managing military and civilians’ maxillofacial casualties during the Iraq-Iran conflict.

Bayan arrived in Manchester in October 1985 for further postgraduate education resulting in MSc and PhD degrees. His interest and training in the administration and management of patients under sedation expanded during his courses at Manchester Dental School where he taught and mentored undergraduate students and dental surgeon colleagues. Bayan obtained LDSRCS from the Royal College of England-London in 1994. During this period, he was appointed as Senior House Officer and Registrar posts at several Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Departments across the North West Trusts and Manchester Dental School, he was also admitted to the Oral Surgery Specialist Register as soon as it was inaugurated in 1998.

Bayan is a member of several associations including the British Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, the British Association Of Oral Surgeons, and the Society for the Advancement of Anaesthesia in Dentistry to mention but a few. His interest in implantology started in 1995 and he has attended several advanced courses in this subject and obtained a year long Multi-System Certificate in Implantology in 2006. Following that he attended several courses in bone grafting and sinus lift procedures in England and abroad. Bayan mentored other colleagues through his association with the University of Salford, Faculty of Health & Social Care, MSc/ PGDip Dental Implantology, the international Team of Implantology, and the Association of Dental Implantology.

Since 1994 Bayan mainly works at Macclesfield General Hospital as a Hospital Practitioner in Oral Surgery and at the Community Dental Services in East Cheshire. He receives referrals for surgical management at a practice in Manchester for Oral Surgery and IV sedation since 2007. He has been a member of Manchester LDC Committee since 2010. Bayan has one daughter, enjoys reading, participating in sports and dancing, he is also proficient in the Arabic language.
