SculpSure Arm Fat Reduction at LaserSculpt Clinic

Summary: A 52 year old female presented at the LaserSculpt Clinic in Liverpool with general dissatisfaction in the appearance of several areas of her body including skin laxity and fat over the posterior arm.

SculpSure body contouring was performed using 2 diode laser applicators on each arm bilaterally requiring a total treatment time of 25 mins.

The result measured at 5 weeks was best observed on photography with the elbow bent at 60 degrees and demonstrates a marked reduction in the fat and skin laxity of the posterior arm.

Presenting complaint: A 52 year old female concerned with the appearance of her posterior arms, complaining of bingo wings.

Medical History: Attended the Liverpool LaserSculpt Clinic in June 2017. She had significant skin laxity over the triceps muscle which hung loosely when the arms were raised.

She was in good health and took medication that would not impact on her weight or that represented a contraindication to treatment. She had an average diet and kept well hydrated, drinking very little alcohol. She took regular weekly exercise classes.

She had never undergone other cosmetic procedures and there was no possibility of pregnancy.

Drug history: None. No known allergies

Examination: The arms had skin laxity posteriorly which hung dependently when the arms were raised. No scarring or evidence of trauma was present and there were no skin lesions of note.

Height was 175cm, weight 77.1 kg with a resulting BMI of 25.1. Pre-procedural photography was performed with the shoulder at approximately 90 degrees to the torso and the elbow feed at 60 degrees.

Treatment: A single 25 minute SculpSure treatment was prescribed using 2 diode lasers on each arm. These were applied with a short belt and positioned in a portrait orientation. Following the four minute build cycle a stepped increase in laser power was delivered. The client had no significant side effects but did experience heating and cooling sensations and a feeling of either pinching or pressure depending on the area being treated. At times these were so significant that 30 seconds of additional cooling had to be provided.

Following the procedure the client was advised to keep well hydrated and to lightly massage the areas treated twice daily for 5 minutes in line with the standard laser manufacturer’s advice.

Results: The client returned to the LaserSculpt 5 weeks after the procedure. Evaluation photography was performed in similar positions to the pre-procedural evaluation. There had been a significant reduction in the appearance of the skin laxity in both upper arms. The client also reported skin tightening. There was no other change to the appearance of the skin of the upper arm and no new lesions were identified.

The client reported no change in diet or exercise.

Conclusion: SculpSure laser body contouring can reduce the appearance of subcutaneous fat in selective areas. The device is FDA approved for use on abdomen, flanks, backs and extremities. Procedural times are 25 minutes and results are visible typically 6 weeks after a single session of treatment. Sculpture should complement a healthy lifestyle. At LaserSculpt clinics nutritional and exercise advice is given freely.
