Here’s a toothbrush that’s so smart, it knows your ‘trouble spots’

Dental hygienist and comparethetreatment.com expert Juliette Reeves has welcomed the launch of a new toothbrush that’s so smart it can track and analyse your brushing technique so you nail your oral health routine every time.

Philips Sonicare has revealed its first ever adult precision-guided toothbrushing system that encourages better brushing habits.

Using Smart Sensor technology, the new Philips Sonicare FlexCare Platinum Connected features a precision-guided tooth brushing system that provides 100% visibility of trouble spots with unique 3D mouth-map technology.

It’s designed to help patients follow advice from their dental practitioner in between check-ups, for healthier, whiter and happier smiles and has been developed with oral healthcare experts with the sensors that track and analyse the patient’s brushing routine to coach them into better habits.

The connected toothbrush syncs with the Philips Sonicare app via Bluetooth to track brushing habits in real time and provides a personalised 3D mouth-map to help coach patients on their brushing technique.

Juliette says: ‘I was really pleased with the fact that we have an app that we can use to educate our patients in between visits. I would recommend the product without hesitation. The fact that it is so personalised is huge advantage, the fact that it gives immediate feedback to me, to patients in between appointments. We are not waiting for them to come back in the chair for me to say: Okay, here is a trouble spot.’

With 90% of consumers feeling more confident about their oral health after using the new brush, patients will never miss another trouble spot again to achieve the healthiest smile ever!

To help patients comply with guidance from their dental practitioner, Philips has designed the ‘Focus Areas’ feature, accessed via the Philips Sonicare app. Dental practitioners can help identify specific spots in the patient’s mouth which need more attention due to plaque build up, gum recession and other issues.

This is highlighted in the patient’s personalised 3D mouth-map so they have a reminder to take extra care of these areas between check-ups.

Scrubbing sensors alert users when they are brushing too hard to reduce scrubbing and encourage better technique, pressure sensors track brushing pressure and alerts when and where too much pressure is applied, to protect gums and a SmartTimer ensures users are brushing for the dental professional recommended time in each segment of their mouth.

Additionally, a BrushPacer prompts users when it’s time to move to another segment of the mouth.

The Philips Sonicare FlexCare Platinum Connected lets users set daily goals and track their progress using the Philips Sonicare app. With personalised coaching, tips and alerts, users’ brushing technique will improve over time, storing an ongoing history of brushing data.
