Pectoral implants are designed to shape, firm and define the male chest. Surgery can either give existing muscle a more enhanced and toned look or be used where exercise alone can’t achieve the desired results.
Pectoral implants are designed to shape, firm and define the male chest. Surgery can either give existing muscle a more enhanced and toned look or be used where exercise alone can’t achieve the desired results. Some patients may also choose to undergo pectoral implant surgery if a medical defect or injury has resulted in an unsymmetrical chest area as it can be used to reproduce a natural look.
A cosmetic surgeon will perform the pectoral implant treatment under general anaesthetic. A small incision will be made under the chest or in the armpit. The surgeon will then create a pocket under the skin where the implant will be placed. To complete the treatment, the incision will be stitched up and dressing used to minimise the risk of infection. The operation generally only takes around an hour to complete.
After the procedure has been completed it is normal to experience some discomfort, soreness and bruising. In most cases simple medication, such as paracetamol available over the counter, will be sufficient for pain relief. Stitches that have been used to close the wound will normally be removed a week after the operation if they were not dissolvable.
When planning the surgery you will need to take up to two weeks off work to fully recover and exercise should be avoided for up to six weeks.
Surgery for pectoral implants can cost from around £3,500 to £7,000.
