Radiofrequency body treatment is a group of cosmetic procedures that heat up tissue, boost blood flow, tighten the tissue and breakdown stubborn areas of fat and cellulite. These treatments heat up the skin without causing damage, stimulating collagen production and dispersing fatty cells to improve the texture of the skin and its elasticity. Radiofrequency body treatment is commonly used to tighten sagging skin caused by childbirth or dramatic weight loss, as well as for reducing cellulite and excess fat on the thighs, stomach and hips.
The four main Radiofrequency body treatments are: Thermacool, Tripollar, Velashape and Accent. These four procedures all use the same method, delivering radio frequency energy to targeted areas of skin on the body, causing it to break down the fatty deposits, drain excess fluid and flush away toxins. Each treatment can take around 30-90 minutes in total, depending on the part of the body that is being targeted.
An anaesthetic cream may be applied topically to your skin to numb the area before any treatment commences, and a lubricating fluid will then be applied afterwards so that the deice can move freely over the skin. The amount and regularity of sessions recommended will vary depending on the particular treatment and device that is used, but it may be advised to undergo treatment every 1-2 weeks, with 8-10 sessions per course. You will have to also undergo maintenance sessions on a monthly basis, regardless of which device is used.
Radiofrequency body treatment is fairly non-invasive, and many patients can easily return to their daily activities immediately after they have received the treatment. However, some side effects may occur such as bruising, redness and discomfort around the targeted area, but this will disappear in a few days after the procedure.
The prices are varied, and can cost from around £80 - £300 per session, depending on the device used.
