Tumescent Liposuction
  • I have unwanted cellulite
  • I have pockets of fat I want to get rid of

Patients and cosmetic surgeons alike consider tumescent liposuction to be the safest form of liposuction surgery. Used alongside traditional liposuction, tumescent liposuction can help to diminish the associated risks of the surgery.

Used alongside traditional liposuction, tumescent liposuction can help to diminish the associated risks of the surgery, as well as ensuring that fat cells can be removed with ease. During the liposuction, tumescent fluid is carefully injected into the treated area. This ensures there is ample room to insert a cannula into the skin and makes sure that the tissues which surround the fat cells are less affected.

A large dose of liquid, made from a local anaesthetic called lidocaine, and epinephrine, a chemical which helps to shrink blood cells, is injected in the area to be treated. This added fluid forces the fat to swell and become firm, allowing the doctor to extract the unwanted fat easily and smoothly. This incurs minimal bleeding.

As tumescent liposuction is not considered to be a large surgical procedure; recovery is minimal in most cases. Many patients will be able to go back to work immediately after, or within the week. Recovery is dependent on the location and size of the treated area.

Incisions made during liposuction generally heal very quickly, leaving the patient with only minimal scarring or none at all. However, to reduce the risk of infection, patients are advised to take part in a full after-care programme and avoid partaking in any strenuous activity.

Patients and cosmetic surgeons alike consider tumescent liposuction to be the safest form of the surgery. Local anaesthetic used during tumescent liposuction reduces pain, as well as quelling any bleeding, swelling or skin irregularities.

Tumescent liposuction usually begins at £1800-2000, but this can increase depending on the number of areas being treated.
