SmartLipo is a minimally invasive cosmetic treatment to remove fat from the body by means of a laser assisted lipolysis system.
Smartlipo can refer to laser assisted liposuction or Smart Lipolysis.
Smartlipo laser assisted liposuction is a very effective fat removal method for small areas of stubborn fat such as the upper arms (‘bingo wings’), chin and neck. It far less invasive than traditional liposuction, so side-effects, risks and recovery are all reduced. Laser assisted liposuction is also very accurate at targeting fat without damaging surrounding tissue.
Smart Lipolysis is also less invasive than traditional liposuction, and is used to target similar areas.
What happens during Smartlipo treatment?
Smartlipo laser assisted liposuction is performed using local anaesthetic and takes under 3 hours. The Smartlipo laser targets and liquefies fat cells from outside the body. This fat is then removed via cannulas inserted into the body through tiny incisions.
In Smart Lipolysis, the cannula is put in first and a fine laser probe is passed through it to act directly on the area and break up fat cells. This method has decreased in popularity because the fat is not instantly removed and the body must eliminate the destroyed fat cells before any significant improvement is seen. This can take 4 or 5 months.
What risks are associated with Smartlipo?
With both Smartlipo liposcuction and lipolysis, there is a minimal risk of infection and bleeding, and as always with cosmetic procedures there is a risk that results may be asymmetrical or not as you expected.
How long will it take me to recover from Smartlipo?
With both Smartlipo lipolysis and Smartipo laser liposuction, recovery is short. You will have minor swelling and bruising and you will need to wear a compression garment for a few days. You may feel fine to return to work the next day, but depending on the area treated you may need to take an extra day off work to recover.
